Pilav: We are ready to implement mass testing strategy

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 25 (FENA) - Members of the Sarajevo Canton Government and Civil Service Crisis Staff of the Sarajevo Canton, together with entrepreneurs, held the second joint press conference today to confirm information on two new cases of coronavirus in Sarajevo. One case was identified after the death of Sarajevo citizen.

President of the Crisis Staff of the Ministry of Health of SC for monitoring and analysis of the situation caused by coronavirus (COVID 2019), prof. dr. Aida Pilav said that with this case we have another cluster in Sarajevo and it is in a private company. Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton has already closed the company, and sent 23 employees to self-isolation.

There are currently four to five clusters of infection in the Sarajevo Canton.

“This is the scenario we were expecting. Testing for these clusters has been done and we expect results,” said Dr. Pilav.

She stated that the database currently contains 1,633 persons who have been assigned self-isolation, while 207 persons have left self-isolation after the prescribed 14 days.

She stressed that relevant institutions will be able to effectively monitor the persons who have been prescribed self-isolation.

She added that they would keep the register of tested and self-isolated persons.

Pilav also said there are no hospitalized coronavirus patients at the moment. She also stressed that it was agreed that therapies for chronic patients would not be prescribed for three, but for six months, and the instruction was sent to all health centers and pharmacies.

Director of the Health Center of the Sarajevo Canton Mehmed Kulić said that the resuscitation of the patient outside Ilidža Health Center yesterday was unfortunately unsuccessful.

“As soon as the presence of coronavirus was found in the deceased patient, necessary testing was started. Last night, all hygienic-epidemiological measures were taken to continue its smooth operation. We also closed the outpatient clinic where the patient was treated, and patients were diverted to other outpatient sites operating in this settlement. The deceased patient was treated several times, had therapy for respiratory disorders. However, in all the records made, it was not possible to establish an epidemiological link between this patient and persons who came from endangered areas,” Director Kulić explained this case.
