Zenica- Coronavirus patient to undergo surgery, seasonal flu H1N1 still ongoing

FENA Vehid Begunić

ZENICA, March 25 (FENA) - A patient from Tešanj who was diagnosed with the coronavirus infection last week and was the only patient transferred to the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Zenica Cantonal Hospital (KBZ) due to pneumonia, will undergo surgery, after all, today, head of Department, Ednan Drljević, told FENA.

- The patient has acute abdominal problems, which require surgery and he will undergo surgery during the day. He has been put on ventilators - he said.

The remaining seven coronavirus-infected people are housed in the isolator and every one of them, as Drljević points out, is stable and under permanent health control. Their symptoms are weak, but they are all contagious.

- We currently have one coronavirus-negative patient in our ward, but she has tested positive for the H1N1 flu type. We are awaiting confirmation from the laboratory for another person for whom we suspect the flue diagnosis. In both cases, the patients are suspected of having a more severe form of the seasonal flu, which means that the flu season is still going on - Drljević notes.

During the course of this flu season, three people in the Infectious Disease Department have died from the flu and they have all been diagnosed with the H1N1 flu. So far, eight people from the Zenica-Doboj Canton have been confirmed to have coronavirus infection, but there are no fatalities.
