BANJA LUKA, March 19 (FENA) - BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik said that intensive talks are underway with China over the procurement of medical equipment, as well as some other countries, and announced rigorous measures and quarantine for all citizens who return from other countries in BiH to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He believes the first quarantines on the BiH border could be organized as early as Saturday.

Dodik stressed that a large influx of BiH citizens is expected, who could face unemployment in the West.

“We have to react in terms of quarantine, very rigorously. We are sorry that they will have to spend 14 days in tents, but it is a measure that will help them and us. Some are aware of this, and now they are trying to catch the last train, get paper for home isolation, but they will be controlled as well. UNDP has summed up the needs of both entities and the Brčko District and I think they will respond,” Dodik said at a press conference after a meeting of RS entity officials regarding the coronavirus situation.

He says a large number of citizens adhere to the measures of the authorities in the current situation, but "that the greatest danger is the irresponsible individuals."

“Some countries have banned all exports ... Europe has closed its borders, and we are trying to find a solution to this. The central banks of all countries have reacted, not yet in our country. But I believe, if the BiH Presidency takes a position, those in the Central Bank will have to do it, too,” he said.

Entity President Željka Cvijanović announces that RS will take a set of measures to mitigate the effect caused by coronavirus, including the creation of an aid fund for economy.

“This will entail the mobilization of certain funds raised from domestic sources and international financial organizations,” said Cvijanović, after meeting with entity Prime Minister Radovan Višković, BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik and Council of Ministers Chairman Zoran Tegeltija.

It announced a moratorium on the payment of loans for both private and legal entites.

“The Armed Forces are on the ground and it will be a challenge how to organize life within these settlements, but the competent authorities, together with local communities, will do so as prescribed. We also expect the involvement of health services, the Civil Protection, local communities and the RS Ministry of Interior,” said Cvijanović.

The RS has no commodity reserves, and RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic claims that it is legally defined to allocate funds for the procurement of certain food supplies.
