BANJA LUKA, March 10 (FENA) - We are ready to fight using all democratic means in the Republika Srpska National Assembly (NSRS) for freedom and democracy, opposition MPs stated today, criticizing the announced changes to the parliamentary Rules of Procedure of that legislative body.

They are ready for a series of protests on the streets, said Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) MP Draško Stanivuković.

“New Rules of Procedure are "funeral" for democracy and will require the most serious response from the opposition. If they do not give us the opportunity to speak, we will be ready to go out in the streets,” said Stanivuković.

SDS MP Ivanka Marković said that the working version of the new Rules of Procedure did not take into account any comments made by their caucus.

Her colleague from the SDS Caucus Davor Šešić claims that the working version of the amendments to the Rules of Procedure is a blow to the Constitution, which provides for free speech.

He says amendments to this document limit discussion time.

“We will be completely prevented from discussing, because one caucus of one party will get some discussion time, which they will allocate to their parliamentarians,” he explained.

On behalf of the PDP, Jelena Trivić said that the problem of the ruling MPs was that they did not use the possibility of discussion, which is also provided by the current document.

RS Legislative Committee Chairperson Dušica Šolaja previously rejected opposition comments that the government wanted to silence them.

She emphasized the deadline of seven days for caucuses to submit suggestions for a working version of the document and that no one was left out.
