SARAJEVO, March 6 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's legislation should incorporate ban on violence and harassment in the workplace, it was pointed out at the conference "We, Women Workers and Our Rights" organized by the BiH Independent Trade Union of Forestry, Wood and Paper Industry in Sarajevo on the occasion of the upcoming International Women’s Day.
The trade union president Lejla Ćatić emphasized that they have joined the conference with a campaign led by the International Organization of Construction and Forestry Workers to commemorate Women's Day by promoting Convention No. 190 on Violence and Harassment at Workplace, adopted in 2019 by the International Labor Organization.
“In addition to this convention, we will talk about different forms of violence, discrimination and harassment of women at the workplace and how much violence against women in their private lives affects women in their workplace,” said Ćatić.
She added that they would also hold discussions about forms of protection for women in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that one of the conclusions would be that BiH should adopt the Convention 190.
The Cure Foundation activist Vildana Džekman stated that she would speak at the conference about the economic empowerment of women in the context of violence they experience at the workplace and in their private lives.
"We will also talk about mobbing and sexual harassment, as well as the importance of adopting Convention 190 in BiH," said Džekman.
In addition to the prohibition of violence and harassment at the workplace, the conference highlighted the need to establish prevention measures, as well as measures of control, implementation of laws and appropriate sanctions.
