BANJA LUKA, March 6 (FENA) - It is necessary to strengthen the capacity of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which lacks 1,200 border guards, said BiH Minister of Security Fahrudin Radončić today in Banja Luka.
He expects the assistance of local and international representatives.
“We have to find a budget for that and Ministry of Security has launched an action towards local authorities and the European Commission to get money for at least 400 border police officers,” Radončić told reporters after meeting with Minister of Interior of the Republika Srpska Dragan Lukač.
We agree, the Minister of Security added, that BiH should not be a parking lot for migrants and that the EU, especially now after conflict between Greece and Turkey, should respond and jointly protect not only its borders, but all other states as we would have here the problem of hundreds of thousands of migrants.
When it comes to the RS's decision not to set up migrant centers on its territory, Radončić said he also expected solidarity.
According to him, no canton in the Federation of BiH wants migrants anymore, who are not refugees, but persons who leave their countries for economic reasons.
He announced that he will also visit Tuzla tomorrow, where he will talk to the city authorities.
Minister Radončić added that they had agreed on BiH's co-operation with Europol in order to start the work of liaison officers.
