FENA

TREBINJE, March 5 (FENA) - Two-day summit "The Western Balkans Energy Future", where over 70 energy experts will discuss, through panel discussions, topics on energy sector transition, development perspectives, market conditions, renewable energy potential, financing projects in energy and smart energy, began in Trebinje.

Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska (RS) Radovan Višković said that after the summit, the experts will give instructions and opinions they see the development of energy sector in the coming years.

He added that today there are investors at this summit who, as he says, are more than interested in construction of facilities in the field of solar and wind power.

“Why not use these potentials for the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The coefficients defined for BiH are 400MW for wind farms, as well as for solar power plants. The RS government believes that these are small coefficients and is ready to open negotiations with other levels of government in BiH to discuss these levels in order to increase these coefficients,” Višković said.

He stressed that the government of Republika Srpska has high expectations from this summit.

Mayor of Trebinje Mirko Ćurić said energy is one of the key branches of Trebinje.

“We have taken steps recently to invest more in renewable energy in Trebinje in the coming period. This summit is another opportunity for Trebinje to prove to be a town with huge potential in the field of congress tourism and it is very important that people from all over the region are present there,” said Ćurić.

He stated that the energy potentials of Trebinje and RS are on the right track to be used in the best possible way.

“We believe that renewable energy sources are the future and Trebinje can benefit for investors to invest in solar power plants. We also have ideal areas in BiH suitable for wind farms and this is very important to us. The conclusions of this summit will be an indication to all of us in which direction to go,” said the Mayor of Trebinje.

General Manager of MH Elektroprivreda (EP) of Republika Srpska Luka Petrović said it is important to strengthen communication among all energy segments in the region.

He added that the adopted strategy for the development of the energy sector by 2035, as well as the development plan and the action plan of the RS EP defines that 1,000MW will be built in the next ten years from renewable sources of new facilities in the Republika Srpska.

The central topics of the 2020 summit, which also takes place on Friday, March 6, are energy sector investment projects as well as green investments, regional energy projects through regional cooperation, regional advancement, business meetings of companies throughout the region, and PPP cooperation (public-private partnership).
