SARAJEVO, February 26 (FENA) - The Serb Democratic Party (SDS) President and State MP in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirko Šarović, announced today that he would not support a bill on the appointment of judges of the BiH Constitutional Court, which was previously executed by the European Court of Human Rights president.
The bill was submitted to parliamentary procedure yesterday by state deputies of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Serb Caucus.
Explaining the attitude, Šarović said that the replacement of three foreign judges at the Constitutional Court of BiH had previously been agreed upon, but he claims that the agreement of political leaders in Banja Luka was not completed because they proposed a different legal solution.
He recalled that it was agreed that in the future if the law were adopted, the three former foreign judges would be appointed in such a way that one would be elected by the RS National Assembly and the other two would be elected from the Federation of BiH.
"This is where a principled approach is tested when it comes to legislation. At another meeting, they decided that the previous three foreign judges should be elected by the BiH Presidency and confirmed by the House of Peoples of BiH. This was done after a new agreement with the HDZ," Šarović said.
