SARAJEVO, February 20 (FENA) - The fourth meeting of the Subcommittee on Innovation, Information Society and Social Policy between the European Union and BiH was held today in Brussels.

The meeting was co-chaired by Alberto Cammarata of the DG NEAR on behalf of the European Commission and Adnan Husić of the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs on behalf of BiH, the BiH Directorate for European Integration stated today.

Representatives of the EU and BiH exchanged information on the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) and the Commission's recommendations in the fields of education and training, information society and media, research and innovation, and employment and social policy.

The European Commission said in a statement that it has praised participation in the Erasmus + program, in which BiH is the leading partner country in the region.

Participation in the Creative Europe program is estimated to have a progressive line from the onset, with participants from BiH withdrawing around EUR 2.3 million through this EU program by mid-2019.

The Commission stressed that BiH should increase the participation of applicants in the cultural part and noted that it withdrew more than EUR 6.1 million through Horizon 2020 with an average success rate higher than the EU average.

The activities of the BiH institutions in the field of participation in international standardized testing and statistical reporting, including BiH's first participation in the PISA survey, were also welcomed.

Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to adopt a law on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions, and among the priorities in the information society and media sector are the introduction of an emergency number 112 across the country, the adoption of a cyber security and cybercrime strategy and broadband access strategies, and legislation regarding electronic communications and electronic media.

In the area of employment and social policy, among others, the priorities are the adoption of an employment strategy at the level of the Federation of BiH and the development of a nation-wide employment strategy in BiH, stated the Directorate for European Integration of BiH.
