Podžić - Sattler: EU institutions' readiness to assist BiH

SARAJEVO, February 19 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sifet Podžić, today received Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to BiH and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Johann Sattler.

At the meeting attended also by assistant ministers Zoran Šajinović and Adem Spahić, Minister Podžić outlined the priorities of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH (AF BiH), as well as the challenges facing the entire country on its path to EU membership.

He emphasized excellent cooperation with the EUFOR in BiH and the participation of the AF BiH in the humanitarian demining process, to make BiH a mine-free country by 2025.

Podžić also emphasized the efforts of the AF BiH in the process of marking small arms and light weapons, which contributes to ensuring a stable and safe environment.

Illegal migration was also one of the topics mentioned as one of the challenges facing the whole region.

Ambassador Sattler expressed his understanding of the complexity of the political processes and challenges that the whole of BiH faces in its path to EU membership.

Sattler underlined readiness of the EU institutions to help Bosnia and Herzegovina and will continue to cooperate with its institutions for the benefit of all its citizens, stated the BiH Ministry of Defense.
