SARAJEVO, February 19 (FENA) - The European Union supports the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Inviolability of borders remains a fundamental principle for the EU and functionality of the institutions must be preserved, EU Delegation Spokeswoman Jamila Milović-Halilović told FENA while commenting on the conclusions of the Republika Srpska (RS) National Assembly.
She emphasizes that the European Union reaffirms the crucial role of the Constitutional Court of BiH in the implementation of the rule of law and recalls that its decisions are final and binding.
"It is the responsibility of the relevant BiH authorities to ensure the implementation of the Constitutional Court's decisions. Decisions regarding the composition of the Constitutional Court are possible within the prescribed procedures and with broader reforms that are part of the EU accession process, as outlined in the European Commission's Opinion and Expert Report," said Milović-Halilović.
She also stressed that the EU urges all political actors in BiH to focus on a common goal and commitment to EU accession prospects, and on vital socio-economic reforms in the interest of citizens.
"This is especially important ahead of the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit in Zagreb. The EU is ready to help," Milović-Halilović concluded.
Deputies in the RS National Assembly adopted eight conclusions on February 17, and obliged RS representatives in BiH institutions to propose in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly the adoption of a law on the termination of the mandate of foreign judges and election of domestic judges in the BiH Constitutional Court.
They also obliged the RS representatives in the BiH institutions to suspend any decision in the BiH authorities until the adoption of the law on foreign judges’ employment termination and the election of domestic judges in the Constitutional Court of BiH and its entry into force, and annulment of the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH on the Law on Agricultural Land.
