SARAJEVO, February 18 (FENA) - Last year, shortly after I came to BiH, I had the opportunity to meet with three people in Maglaj who are among the most inspirational people I have ever met, Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Kathleen Kavalec stated.
Although they fought against each other as commanders of opposing armies in Maglaj from 1992 to 1995, Rizo Salkić, Marko Zelić and Boro Jevtić met to tell their stories in a documentary in which they shared what they learned about the meaninglessness and tragedy of war.
The three former commanders are now traveling across BiH as peacemakers participating in public discussions after the screening of this documentary entitled 'Maglaj - War and Peace'. They talk about the pain and destructiveness of the war, the importance of reconciliation and forgiveness, as well as their efforts today to build prosperous future for BiH citizens and their children.
"Their stories fill me with deep respect for their commitment to promoting peace. I have watched their film several times, and each time I am touched how these war veterans and former enemies have become the frontrunners of their community in launching speeches on important topics in Maglaj and across the country. Talking to youth, war veterans, politicians and citizens, their message is that there is simply no alternative to peace and reconciliation and that communication and open dialogue may be the best start to achieving this goal," said Kavalec.
The OSCE Mission to BiH is proud to support their efforts by organizing the screening of the movie "Maglaj - War and Peace", in Sarajevo at Meeting Point Cinema on February 20, 2020 at 2 pm. The event will be open to public.
