Tadić: BiH has the largest number of war crimes cases solved

FENA

MOSTAR, February 17 (FENA) - Chief Prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, Gordana Tadić, said today at the opening of a two-day Prosecutor’s College in Mostar that BiH has the largest number of war crimes cases solved, but that a large number of those cases remain unresolved, stressing that more than 800 people were indicted and sentenced to more than 3700 years in prison.

“It is not a small number and BiH Prosecutor’s Office has put a great effort, but there is still a lot to do. There are still about 449 cases of known perpetrators, over 4000 persons to process or complete their cases, as well as exhumation cases and cases of unknown persons,” Tadić said in a press release.

She added that the BiH Prosecutor's Office is investing the maximum in order to give citizens confidence in its work.

“The Prosecutor's Office of BiH gives its maximum to ensure that citizens have confidence in the work of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, and thus in the BiH judiciary. One of the aspects is this college that we organized and we will discuss these issues as well. It is only through our work that we can gain confidence of citizens,” said Tadić.

The Chief Prosecutor did not want to comment on the requests about foreign judges in BiH, stating that the BiH Prosecutor's Office works on the basis of facts and evidence, and when asked if the new situation in BiH could have a negative impact on the work of the judiciary and the prosecution, Tadić said the BiH Prosecutor's Office is working in full capacity.

French Ambassador to BiH Guillaume Rousson emphasized on this occasion that France respects the rule of law and the accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Union.

“I am sure that this College of Prosecutors will give an opportunity for the prosecutors who have significant experience to help in resolving various issues within the Prosecutor's Office and combat various types of crime in a better way,” Ambassador Rousson said.

The Prosecutor's College has gathered 138 participants and 118 are employees of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH. The work of the College will be organized in two panels to discuss all topics within the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, organized crime, economic crime and corruption, and terrorism and human trafficking.
