Antifascist movements mark the Liberation Day event in Mostar

MOSTAR, February 16 (FENA) - About 2,000 members of anti-fascist associations from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region gathered in Mostar on Saturday to attend the central ceremony of the Mostar Anti-Fascism Days event.

Secretary of the Yugoslav Center Movement 'Tito Belgrade' Boris Petković stated that today there is more fascism in this region than it was during the Second World War.

"Fascism rears its head and creates divisions among people, creates problems, hatred and spreads poison among people. That is why it is important to be here today, on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Mostar in the Second World War, to say that there should be no division between people, that we should not look at who is who, what god someone is praying to and what is the color of their skin. If we are not living in the same country anymore, at least we can be humans, friends and we can work together," said Boris Petković.

The central program of the event was held at the Partisan Memorial Cemetery, which was partially restored two years ago, and which has since been devastated to a lesser extent after the monument was left without physical protection.

Initially, the procession with the participants of the event was planned to walk the section from Musala to Partizan Cemetery, but the police decided that the participants should take buses to the venue of the central program.

"We were forbidden to go to the Partisan Memorial Cemetery in a quiet convoy and I ask who are these people who placed the ban? We will fight against it with all means. Next time, we will bring 20,000 anti-fascists to Mostar and not ask anyone for permission," commented the President of the Union of Anti-fascists and WWII Veterans Sead Đulić the decision of the police to ban them from walking in the convoy.

"We are not here to talk only about 1945. The culture of memory is important, but we are here because of what lies ahead. The sole guarantor of Bosnia and Herzegovina is its unity in all its diversity. If we don't sober up our future will be terrible. We must be inspired by the ideas of unity, community, anti-fascism, we must think about our children," said Đulić.
