SARAJEVO, February 11 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Staša Košarac, said in Sarajevo today that all institutional capacities of BiH will be included to prevent construction of a nuclear waste landfill announced by Croatia at the Trgovska Gora site.
“We will be dedicated to the development of good neighborly relations with Croatia, because we could build a landfill above Dubrovnik, but that would not be good and would not contribute the development of good neighborly relations,” Košarac said.
He added that it is necessary to form an expert team that would represent BiH's interests in this case, and to inform the European institutions primarily about this problem.
“Our primary obligation is to protect BiH citizens in the Una River Basin, as well as to protect the environment,” said Košarac.
FBiH Minister of the Environment and Tourism Edita Djapo said that the announced construction of the landfill is an open issue between the two countries, but that she hopes that we will be able to prevent Croatia from that location through diplomatic channels.
RS Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and Ecology Srebrenka Golić has announced they will fight by all legal means to prevent Croatian authorities from attempting to build a landfill that would endanger the residents of 13 municipalities in BiH.
Member of the Green Club parliamentary group Saša Magazinović said that it was agreed that, apart from entrusted joint activities, they should continue with individual activities so far and that deputies would continue to communicate with colleagues in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the European Parliament and the parliaments of the countries of the region on this issue.
Mayor of Novi Grad / Bosanski Novi, Miroslav Drljača, emphasized that the construction of the landfill is completely unacceptable for the local population and that this will show how serious BiH is and is able to protect its citizens.
