He attended the opening of the Conference and addressed the participants in the introductory part, within the ministerial segment.

Deputy Brkić congratulated IAEA Director-General Rafael Marian Grossi on his recent appointment and wished him a successful mandate, emphasizing that the Agency needs strong and committed leadership in the challenging times ahead.

He expressed confidence that the IAEA would continue to pursue its noble goal of nuclear non-proliferation and the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

He welcomed the unanimous ministerial declaration adopted today, which, he said, shows the determination of the international community to commit to strengthening nuclear security.

Brkić added that the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety of BiH, in cooperation with the IAEA, organized a meeting to raise awareness of nuclear safety, attended by senior government officials from relevant institutions responsible for nuclear safety in BiH.

Thanks to cooperation with the IAEA through INSSP (Integrated Nuclear Security Support Plan), as well as cooperation through technical cooperation projects, we expect significant improvement and strengthening of the country's nuclear security regime in the coming period, Brkić stressed.

Deputy Minister Josip Brkic said at the end of his address noted that BiH plans to ask the European Commission to secure funds for equipment and training to further strengthen the nuclear security regime, and to improve cooperation with neighboring countries to strengthen the ability to detect illegal cross-border activities with nuclear and radioactive materials.
