SARAJEVO, February 9 (FENA) - The International Organization for Migration (IOM), which manages the temporary reception centers of Ušivak and Blažuj, has agreed with the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina to appoint two imams to lead the Friday prayers in these centers.
Imams of the Islamic Community last Friday led the prayer for believers of the Islamic faith at the reception centers Blažuj and Ušivak. The prayer was attended by the centers' beneficiaries, humanitarian response staff and police officers from the local police department.
Previously, migrants and refugees conducted their prayers at the makeshift corner that was used as a temporary solution, and as of last Friday, they will use a renovated and bright space, suitable for religious ceremonies.
The office for the social care of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has helped equip the facility, and the Islamic Community Majlis will appoint imams to be available to migrants, both for the purposes of organizing Friday prayers and for other needs with which the imam or Islamic communities can help.
Since the onset of the migrant crisis, the Islamic community has repeatedly provided various forms of assistance in money, food and medicine, and will continue to contribute in accordance with its capacities to reduce the suffering of refugees, migrants and victims of trafficking currently in BiH, but this assistance, as well as the assistance of a large number of members of the Islamic Community and partner organizations, cannot be a substitute for the systemic response of state and international authorities, stated the IC in BiH.
