Turković holds a number of meetings with senior United States officials

SARAJEVO, February 9 (FENA) - Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers met with a number of senior officials during her official visit to the United States of America.

As part of her visit to the United States, Minister Turković attended a private lunch at the US Senate, organized by Senator Mike Enzi.

During her visit to Washington, she also met with Ambassador at Large John Cotton Richmond and informed him on the adoption of the new BiH Strategy for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and the progress already made, as well as further strategic steps to be taken in this area.

The Minister also held a meeting with Ambassador at Large Sam Brownback in charge of International Freedom of Religion. They concluded that Sarajevo would be an ideal venue for a leaders' meeting ahead of the Srebrenica Commemoration on July 11, attended by various religious leaders for the purpose of reconciliation and joint prayer.

Turković also met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijarto to discuss the Hungarian Embassy's mandate in NATO as a NATO-Contact Embassy in Sarajevo, cooperation with BiH and the donation of funds for the renovation of the BiH Embassy in Budapest.

They talked about the continuation of Hungary's expert support to BiH on its path to the EU. On this occasion, the Hungarian Minister offered support for the possible engagement of 15 specially trained police officers in the tasks of strengthening the control of the BiH borders.

Hungary is also interested in signing bilateral agreements under preparation and expressed hope that they would be signed during the visit of the Hungarian Prime Minister in April or May this year. Minister Szijarto also expressed his intention to attend the Mostar Fair.

As part of her visit to the United States, Minister Turković also had a meeting with the Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the Commonwealth, the United Nations and South Asia, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon.

They discussed, inter alia, the post-Brexit period, the Judiciary Support Programs, the newly established Education Fund and the opportunities for BiH to become a beneficiary of the Fund, and the forthcoming Conference on Justice and Accountability to be held in May this year in London, stated the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH.
