Halal certificates held by 105 companies and more than 5,000 products in BiH

SARAJEVO, February 9 (FENA) - Director of the BiH Halal Quality Certification Agency, Damir Alihodžić, told FENA that the halal certification process in 2019 was successfully completed by 19 companies, 19 from BiH, six from Serbia, and one each in Turkey, Montenegro, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.

Of the 29 companies, 17 are in the food industry, eight in the tourism sector, two in the animal feed and premixture industries, and one each in the pharmaceutical, food packaging and leather industries. In BiH, the majority of halal-certified companies in 2019 are from the food industry, nine of them, followed by tourism, eight, and one each in the fields of pharmacy, food packaging and leather industry.

Alihodžić added that there are currently 105 companies in BiH with the halal certificates and more than five thousand products.

"The Halal industry is very important for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Almost all major companies have recognized the potential of the world halal market and implemented the requirements of the halal standard. On average, more than 20 new companies in BiH complete the successful implementation of halal standards every year," said Alihodžić.

Also in 2019, he added, there has been an increase in tourism companies that have successfully completed the halal certification process. When it comes to halal tourism in our country, Alihodžić said that this area is also developing rapidly considering that BiH is one of the most attractive destinations in this regard.

"We expect that the competent ministries, in accordance with the stated needs, will provide more significant support to the development of halal tourism in BiH in the coming period," said Alihodžić.

Halal products are finding their place on the shelves of different markets around the world, and our companies export to countries in the region, EU, America, Canada, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, etc.

The Agency fully supports the Sarajevo Business Forum (SBF) and its representatives intend to participate in this leading investment conference in Southeast Europe again this year.

"Our experiences with previous SBFs are very positive and we had the opportunity to get useful information, present ourselves and establish business contacts with relevant players from all over the world," Alihodžić said in an interview with FENA.
