Minister Košarac receives head of EU delegation to BiH Johann Sattler

SARAJEVO, February 5 (FENA) - BiH's Foreign Trade and Economic Affairs Minister Staša Košarac received today the head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Johann Sattler, in Sarajevo to discuss political and economic opportunities in BiH, and the necessary reforms in the EU integration process.

Minister Košarac expressed his commitment to actively work on reforms and activities that will accelerate the path towards the EU, which is BiH's main foreign policy goal. He stressed the importance of the coordination mechanism in this process and stated that he would affirm the cooperation of the competent entity ministries and institutions of the Brčko District with the coordinating role of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH.

At the meeting, they also discussed the harmonization of BiH legislation with EU norms and standards, especially in the field of agriculture and energy. Particular focus was placed on accelerated alignment of strategic documents so that BiH farmers could use available EU funds. The possibility of expanding the capacity of border crossings in BiH and the need to integrate individual border crossings with neighboring countries were also discussed.

The interlocutors also discussed the conditions that BiH has to fulfill in order to become a member of the World Trade Organization, which Minister Košarac indicated as one of the priorities in his work. The interlocutors also discussed the one-year chairmanship over CEFTA, which BiH recently took over from Albania. Minister Košarac said that one of the priorities would be to strengthen the structures and conclude an additional dispute resolution protocol at CEFTA.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on environmental issues, which are at the top of the European Commission's priorities. In this context, Minister Košarac informed Ambassador Sattler about the activities he is undertaking, in cooperation with the entity ministries and other relevant institutions, to prevent the construction of a nuclear and radioactive waste landfill at the Trgovska gora site, the Ministry of Trade and Economic Relations of BiH said.
