Rangel: BiH has its own path towards European Union

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) - Speakers of the House of Representatives and House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Zvizdić and Dragan Čović, spoke today in Brussels with the Permanent Rapporteur of the European Parliament for BiH, Paul Rangel, about the amendments to the Election Law, elections in Mostar, the future of democracy in BiH and the EU candidate status.

Čović emphasized that changes to the Election Law are in the final stages of agreement and that they will ensure the full equality of constituent peoples in political representation at all levels of government.

Talking about progress on the path to European Union (EU), he said BiH should not be in the shadow of North Macedonia or Albania, and that BiH should not tie its European path to any country.

Zvizdić reaffirmed citizens 'commitment to European BiH, adding that fulfilling reforms and commitments would result in positive socio-economic development, improving citizens' living standard and establishing modern European mechanisms in BiH.

Rangel, who is also Portugal's MEP, stressed the importance of active and continuous cooperation between BiH and EU representatives, as well as a European perspective.

He reiterated the view that BiH has its own path to Europe, and that it should not be burdened with the problems of other candidates or potential candidate countries.

The officials have expressed expectations for continued positive cooperation and priority activities in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of obtaining a candidate status as soon as possible, stated the Public Relations Sector of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
