Saša Magazinović elected Vice-President of SOC COE

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) - Saša Magazinović, President of the Main Board of the Social Democratic Party of BiH and Member of the Delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, was elected as Vice-President of the Socialists, Democrats and Greens Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (SOC COE) political group.

This traditionally influential, and currently largest political group in the Council of Europe, brings together MPs from parties that are members of the Party of European Socialists (PES), Socialist International (SI) and Progressive Alliance (PS). The group is currently headed by Frank Schwabe from Germany.

Regarding the election to this important position, Magazinović stated that this situation is a new challenge for him, as political groups in the Council of Europe, as well as in the European Parliament, play a very prominent role.

“I think that it is good for as many people from Bosnia and Herzegovina to be represented in international institutions, to hold responsible positions in international organizations, but also in bodies where everything that directly or indirectly concerns Bosnia and Herzegovina is decided,” said Magazinović, SDP BiH announced.

“Although my job within the Socialist group is not strictly related to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but to all topics covered by the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, of course I will pay special attention to activities related to our country. From this session, a new cycle of monitoring of Bosnia and Herzegovina begins, which will end with consideration of the report at the plenary session at the end of the year. It is very important for all of us in Bosnia and Herzegovina to do our best to ensure that this important document, which will be adopted by the Council of Europe, reflects the real situation in the best interests of our country. The Socialist Group at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, of which I am Vice-President, has always demonstrated support for the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I have no doubt that this support will be more intense now,” said Magazinović.
