US Govt. officer for combating public corruption to work with Sarajevo Canton

SARAJEVO, January 24 (FENA) - Director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the United States Embassy in BiH, ​​Benjamin A. Rockwell, visited today the Sarajevo Canton administration.

During the visit, Rockwell met with the Assembly Speaker Danijela Kristić, SC Prime Minister Edin Forto and SC Justice and Administration Minister Lejla Brčićand talked about cooperation in the fight against corruption.

The working meeting held today represents a continuation of the cooperation between the US Embassy in BiH and the Sarajevo Canton on anti-corruption activities, which is defined by the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year, which also defines the US assistance in strengthening the capacity of the Office for Quality Control and Fight against Corruption of the Sarajevo Canton.

The US Embassy representative informed the SC officials that their selection process for an anti-corruption advisor, a US citizen, is in the final stages and this person will work with the Anti-Corruption Office of the SC. It is a person who has experience in successfully investigating and prosecuting cases of public corruption.

They stressed that their goal is to build capacities and support institutional co-operation between the Sarajevo Police, the Prosecutor's Office, the Office for Quality Control and Anti-Corruption of KS and other institutions. As part of this, they are funding a program of cooperation and partnerships in the field of criminal law in the fight against corruption in BiH.

Representatives of the US Embassy have expressed their full commitment and support to the implementation of the initiated processes, and in order to spread the good practices established in the SC, recognized in the reports of international experts, to other communities in BiH.
