Sarajevo Airport: No specific recommendations regarding coronavirus

SARAJEVO, January 24 (FENA) - Sarajevo International Airport has the Crisis Management and Medical Emergency Plan, a document adopted in accordance with the provisions of the BiH Aviation Law and upon the recommendation of the BiH Civil Aviation Directorate and the World Health Organization, spokeswoman of the Sarajevo International Airport, Sanja Bagarić-Arnaut, confirmed for FENA.

She emphasized that the Plan envisages engagement and clearly specifies the obligations of the employees of Sarajevo International Airport, FBiH Sanitary Border Inspection, Public Health Institute of the Sarajevo Canton and FBiH, Emergency Medical Services of the Sarajevo Canton, BiH Air Navigation Services Agency, Border Police Units at the Sarajevo Airport, Customs Offices at the Sarajevo Airport, representatives of air operators at the Sarajevo International Airport, Rescue and Fire Service at the Sarajevo International Airport, Civil Protection of the Sarajevo Canton, hospital staff and many others in crisis health situations, i.e. all those involved in the admission process and dispatch of passengers.  

Speaking about devices used to check the temperature of passengers, she said that the Federation BiH and cantonal public health institutes and the FBiH Sanitary Border Inspector at the Sarajevo Airport are responsible for that.

In addition to standard recommendations for reducing exposure and transmission of various diseases, which include hand hygiene, food and respiratory protection, they received no recommendations or special health measures for coronavirus passengers from the Office of the World Health Organization in BiH.

Bagarić-Arnaut stressed that all participants in the process of crisis management and medical emergencies are obliged to provide adequate protective equipment, i.e. masks, gloves, clothing for their staff, and especially for staff who will be in contact with the suspected passenger and they have secured that for their employees.

"Although we have not received any specific coronavirus instruction, we have made recommendations to our employees to reduce exposure and reduce the possibility of disease transmission, which includes more frequent hand washing, respiratory protection and food safety," Bagarić-Arnaut explained.
