SARAJEVO, January 23 (FENA) - Minister of Security of BiH, Fahrudin Radončić confirmed at a press conference today that the BiH Council of Ministers adopted the Strategy for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period 2020-2023.

“We worked on this strategy with our European and US partners, in the sense that we met standards that were very important to us,” said Minister Radončić, explaining that with this, BiH also fulfills certain requirements of the European Commission.

He said that the Council of Ministers today, with great delay, adopted the Information on the State of Migration in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period April-October 2019.

“We allowed two, three years ago, for people to enter our country without identification. We now have huge security issues. Thousands of people come in, we don't know who they are, and we can't identify them. The problem has arisen that the state of BiH must prove their identity, not the other way around,” said Radončić.

He will request for BiH to draw up a new set of relations towards the migrant crisis, as well as to consult with members of the BiH Presidency and the Council of Ministers of BiH.

“I consulted with agency directors. I speak intensively with international representatives, that is, numerous ambassadors in this country. We seek much greater financial assistance to address the migrant and security crisis in BiH from our international partners. This is primarily a matter of their security as well,” emphasized Radočić.

He explains that the Border Police lacks 1,200 police officers, a large number of staff in the Foreigners’ Affairs Service, and a change in legislation is necessary to enable police authorities to do their jobs responsibly.

“We must take full responsibility, first for the security of the citizens of BiH, and then for our international partners, because in the current situation, humanitarian issue is being overexposed, and the security issue is completely in the background,” said Minister Radončić.

He confirmed that the appointment of the Director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) was not on the agenda of the Council of Ministers session today.

“We have agreed to hold consultation within the Council of Ministers of BiH over the next fifteen days, not only when it comes to the election of the SIPA director, but also the Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA), but also many other appointments that we have to resolve,” said Radončić.
