Radončić discusses migrant crisis with ambassadors of Austria and Germany

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 20 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fahrudin Radončić, today held separate meetings in Sarajevo with Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to BiH Ulrike Hartmann and Federal Republic of Germany Margret Uebber.

The migrant crisis and a new approach to addressing this major challenge for BiH was a dominant topic at these two meetings.

Minister Radončić emphasized that BiH has not created a systematic response to this problem in the last two years and announced a plan for BiH to restore sovereignty over the migration management in the coming period, especially when it comes to the security aspect and better control of BiH's eastern border.

One of the priorities is to change the Migration Management Strategy and other regulations that will enable police agencies to work more efficiently and suppress the illegal entry of migrants into BiH.

Radončić also briefed Austrian Ambassador Hartman on the process of operational cooperation with EUROPOL, announcing that he expects the last obstacle to establishing a contact point for cooperation with this institution to be overcome.

Ambassador Hartman expressed willingness of the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs to continue supporting and transferring knowledge to security agencies in BiH.

Radončić discussed with German Ambassador to BiH Margret Uebber the return of BiH citizens who have fought as foreign fighters in Syria, noting that, with the recent return of the first group, BiH has shown that it has the capacity to sanction and control these persons, the BiH Ministry of Security stated.
