SARAJEVO, January 20 (FENA) - Deputy in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Damir Arnaut informed today the leadership of the Alliance for a Better Future BiH (SBB) that he has resigned from his post in the SBB, and that he will act as an independent MP from now on, in accordance with the BiH Election Law.
Arnaut said in a press release that SBB's announcement of a lawsuit against Jasna Duraković precludes his continued membership in the party.
“It is my duty to protect and advocate for human rights and fundamental freedoms, issues of political and public interest. In light of the announced process against Ms. Duraković, I am stepping down from my membership in the SBB and I am acting in the framework of those duties,” Arnaut added.
He stressed that he would continue to act in the BiH Parliament in accordance with promises made to voters and success achieved so far - towards reducing privileges and public spending, protecting the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens, the independence of the judiciary, fight against all forms of terrorism, corruption and conflict of interest, protection of human rights, progress towards NATO and EU membership, and other such issues.
Arnaut also said that other parties should understand that his move represents freedom of action and expression, not a conflict with the SBB.
"In such circumstances, they should not expect me to consent to betrayal of my principles," Arnaut emphasized in his statement.
