SARAJEVO, January 17 (FENA) - The Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Edin Forto has announced that masks and air purifiers will be provided for the most vulnerable categories of the population in the Canton, especially for children, in the next few days.

Noting that air pollution in the SC is critical, as in other cities of the FBiH and the region, Forto recalled at the press conference that the episode of "Alert", introduced since January 11, has included emergency measures. These measures have been implemented by inspectors on the ground by conducting site visits and checks on collective and individual heating systems and in transportation.

“The SC Government will discuss the issue of air pollution on Monday, January 20 with representatives of the international community, embassies in BiH, as we do not have the current funding for some of the measures we want to take. We will seek help from international organizations,” Forto announced.

Also, the Government will invite business entities to an emergency meeting to conduct monitoring, especially in municipalities where pollution levels have increased dramatically, and these measures are being taken following a report by the SC Inspection Directorate and the MoI, which stated that there were major problems in the implementation of Alert measures.

In the coming period, they plan to initiate changes to the legislation in this area at the FBiH level.

The departmental ministers in the SC Government Damir Filipović, Srđan Mandić and Adnan Šteta said that a big problem was in the inability to sanction vehicles and banning the use of certain categories of vehicles.

They pointed out that with all the next episodes of "Alert", tram and trolleybus public transportation will be free for all citizens.

The Prime Minister and the ministers agree that they will continue to work on preventive measures and solutions to the problem, but that all levels of government, especially the FBiH one, should be involved.
