BANJA LUKA, January 17 (FENA) - The announced construction of a nuclear and radioactive waste landfill in Trgovska Gora, at the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a priority issue of the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, said today Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Staša Kosarac at a meeting with Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and Ecology of the entity of Republika Srpska, Srebrenka Golić.
Košarac said he would organize a meeting with the entity ministers responsible for the environment in February, representatives of the Green Club, which brings together MPs at all levels of government in BiH, heads of municipalities in the Una River Basin, and the leadership of the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Security, with a view to jointly plan future activities.
After the meeting, a comprehensive report will be produced and presented to the Council of Ministers, and I the RS Ministry will propose to update the composition of the Working Group for monitoring the situation and activities regarding the possible construction of a radioactive waste landfill in Trgovska Gora site.
At the meeting held in Banja Luka, it was decided that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH would seek a trilateral meeting with the competent ministries of Croatia and Slovenia, in order to resolve the issue in accordance with good neighborly relations.
Ministers Golić and Košarac concluded that they would suggest to the BiH Presidency that the draft budget of the institutions of BiH incorporates planned assets for the formation of a legal and expert team that would represent BiH's interests in case of international arbitration if efforts to prevent the construction of the nuclear waste landfill at this site eventually fail.
