Air pollution in Sarajevo on the rise again in the evening hours

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 12 (FENA) - Concentration of PM10 dust particles in the air was still extremely high today, which is why the episode of high alert remains in force in all areas of the Sarajevo Canton.

The average PM10 values measured today at the Ilijaš Air Measurement Station were 644 µg/m3, in Ilidža –492 µg/m3 in Otoka 447 µg/m3, and the City Hall station 347 µg/m3.

Although there was a slight decrease in PM10 concentration compared to yesterday's and last night's values, the air quality situation is still considered to be extremely unfavorable and detrimental to the health of the entire population.

The authorities urge that the movement in the 'alert zones' be reduced to a minimum, especially in the evenings when PM10 concentration is expected to rise again, the press service of the Sarajevo Canton stated.

This extremely unfavorable situation for the health of citizens, from the aspect of air quality, is expected in the coming days, as no change in weather conditions was announced that would allow air clearing in the Sarajevo Basin.

Set of recommendations on self-protection measures for increased concentration of air pollutants is available at the Ministry of Health's website https://mz.ks.gov.ba/aktuelnosti/zdravstvene-preporuke-rizicnim-grupama-stanovnistva-kod-povecanih-koncentracija
