ČAPLJINA, January 10 (FENA) - Salmir Kaplan, charged of having interrupted the election process in Stolac in 2016, was sentenced to two years in prison before the Čapljina Municipal Court on Friday, and was fined 1,500 KM.
Demir Mahmutćehajić was also sentenced to one year and four months in prison and was also fined 1,500 KM. Ahmet Ljubović was sentenced to 10 months in prison and fined 1,000 KM.
All three are charged with destroying election documents, preventing an official from performing official activities and damage of property.
The incident occurred in October 2016, during the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Kaplan, who was running for mayor of Stolac, along with a dozen other persons, interrupted the election process, explaining his actions as an attempt to prevent election fraud.
According to the indictment, Kaplan, Mahmutćehajić and Ljubović toppled the ballot boxes and physically attacked Marijo Raguž, Ivica and Nikola Perić.
After today's sentencing, Kaplan said this was a politically motivated ruling that will be dismissed at a higher instance court.
