Grubeša: Judicial reform remains a priority

FENA Press release

MOSTAR, January 9 (FENA) - Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to advocate strengthening the rule of law in BiH, passing a series of new laws, strategies, projects, expert analysis of BiH and EU law, said Josip Grubeša who will also hold the post of Minister of Justice in the new convening of the BiH Council of Ministers.

“BiH is legal state, a state in which crime and corruption must not be stronger than the state, as one of the basic conditions for BiH's accession to the European Union and NATO,” Grubeša said, PR Office of the HDZ BiH announced.

He added that one of the larger projects, which is about to be finished, is the opening and putting into operation of a state prison, which was finally built after 13 years and there are assumptions that it will be put into operation this spring.

He stressed that he will intensify work on existing and new projects, and he expects support from his ministers in their implementation.

“The BiH Ministry of Justice has long-term strategic goals that cannot be completed in one day. The foundation of each rule of law is an independent, impartial and effective judiciary, and reform of the entire judicial system in BiH, including the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), should be a constant and ongoing process. Reform of the judiciary has been and remains my priority, so in the coming period I will do my best to reopen this issue and find solution as soon as possible,” he said.

Regarding the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), Grubeša recalled that they formed a working group composed of experts from all levels that would analyze the existing solution, take into account the assessment of the expert commission and other relevant indicators and make sustainable draft law that will make the necessary changes to the HJPC organization.
