USTIKOLINA, January 7 (FENA) - In a decision from July last year, the Foča Municipal Assembly (RS) determined the site in Filipovići for a future landfill. It is a village located on the entity border and partly belongs to the Municipality of Foča in FBiH.

FBiH Mayor of Foča Zijad Kunovac explains that the landfill would be built at the border of the village of Filipovići and Paunci, where mainly Bosniak returnees live, and that a location above the RS-owned military facility, that is 1.7 km away from the main road Goražde-Foča, is designated for this purpose.

He emphasizes that decisions of this kind also required the consent of neighboring municipalities, but it was not requested from the Municipality of Foča in FBiH.

“Our relations with the Municipality of Foča (RS) are good and correct, but we learned from the media about the landfill decision. As soon as we found out, we sent a letter to the Municipality of Foča in RS to inform us in order to have a complete information. Unfortunately, we have not received any details therefore, we forwarded it to the municipal council,” Kunovac points out.

In the letter, Mayor of Foča (RS) Radisav Masić stated that upon the proposal of the expert committee of the Foča Municipal Assembly, he had concluded that the temporary site for the sanitary landfill should be at Filipovići site, owned by RS, and that it would be made according to the standards prescribed for that type of the facility and that it will not harm the environment.

“It is still necessary to insist on a regional landfill and thus unite all local communities in this region, in which the Municipality of Foča had the opportunity to become involved. They expressed the desire to form a landfill that would be close to our municipality and close to villages that would be endangered because it would be located above those villages and would endanger the lives of residents due to combustion and wastewater,” said Kunovac.

He adds that the local community is committed to protecting the health of each individual and that it is necessary to carry out necessary procedures related to the disposal of municipal waste at new locations.

“It is extremely difficult for us that it happened like this because we do not want to endanger any resident, whether in the RS or the Federation of BiH, without carrying out all the necessary procedures first. We will insist that the Municipality of Foča must obtain adequate indicators that it will not endanger any inhabitants,” the Mayor of the Municipality of Foča in FBiH stated.
