Puhovski: Milanović won due to clash between the two right factions

SARAJEVO, January 6 (FENA) - Zagreb professor and political analyst Žarko Puhovski said for FENA that the elections in Croatia showed that a stronger candidate with a weaker party structure support won, that is, a stronger party structure could not help the weaker candidate, because the campaign of Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, especially the first part of the campaign, was "disastrous".

According to him, even the HDZ could no longer help her.

“Milanović turned out to be a man who seemed to know what he was saying, unlike Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, who seemed utterly crushed, lost, and that actually ruled the campaign. On the other hand, the political machine of the HDZ was seriously concerned by the fact that candidate Miroslav Škoro appeared on the right in the first round, winning almost 40 percent of the right electoral pool, which is generaly larger than the left,” Puhovski said.

He said the conflict between the two right factions was so deep that in the second round the right could no longer unite and that is why Milanović could pass.

Asked what kind of attitude the Republic of Croatia can have with BiH after the victory of Zoran Milanović, he said he was convinced that there would be no turning point in Croatian politics.
