Ibro Ćufurović sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment

SARAJEVO, December 27 (FENA) - Following a guilty plea entered at the trial and following the presentation of evidence related to sentencing in the case of Ibro Ćufurović, on 27 December 2019 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a judgment finding the accused Ibro Ćufurović guilty of the criminal offense of Organizing a Terrorist Group. 

The Court sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. The time the accused spent in pre-trial custody shall be credited towards the imposed sentence of imprisonment starting from the date of arrest, 20 April 2019, onwards, BiH Court announced. 

The accused Ibro Ćufurović has been found guilty that he left BiH on 21 April 2014 and flew to Turkey, from where he illegally crossed the border into Syria. 

He went there to fight on the side of the so-called Islamic State organized in the territory of Syria and Iraq and terrorist groups of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) which operated in the territory of Syria and Iraq.

The groups were listed as terrorist by the UN Security Council, under 1999 Resolution R-1267, as well as other related resolutions, because their goal was destabilization and forcible change of the political and constitutional order in Syria.  

Their members have, by daily armed actions, specifically by attacks on civilian population, killings, unlawful detention, hostage taking and other actions, aimed to force Syria’s legitimate authorities to change the constitutional order and political regime.
