US Embassy in BiH stresses the necessity for professional and civilized dialogue

SARAJEVO, December 24 (FENA) - The United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina condemned the violence that took place yesterday evening during a session of the Republika Srpska National Assembly, stressing that there is no place for violence and threats in a democratic debate.

“Violence and threats have no place in democratic debate. This is not the way to resolve differences in opinion. We strongly condemn physical attacks and urge the necessity of professional, civilized dialogue,” reads the tweet of the US Embassy in BiH.

Last night's session of the RS National Assembly was turbulent, to say the least, and it had a little to do with the recently adopted Reform Program, a document adopted by members of the BiH Presidency in November and sent to NATO headquarters in Brussels via the BiH Mission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The RS Interior Minister Dragan Lukač, while standing and speaking at the podium addressing the assembly, urged for a Democratic Progress Party (PDP) MP, Draško Stanivuković, to approach him, and when he did, Lukač first threw papers with NATO logo at him and then violently pushed him away. He subsequently apologized to RS MPs and the public.
