SARAJEVO, December 19 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Dragan Čović said tonight, addressing a number of guests at the Christmas reception, that Bosnia and Herzegovina, perhaps more than ever, needs peacemakers, people prone to cooperation, who seek to establish a political order based on consensus values and advancement within social relations.
“Whenever we approach each other with distrust or insincerity, we violate vows that oblige us to adhere in political life to principles that reject the politics of conflict and require that we strive to build a society that is conducive to a comprehensive and inclusive agreement on the future of our homeland and common perspectives within it,” said Čović.
He stressed that BiH needs leaders who respect each other and the institution of democratic elections as a means of full affirmation of the freedom of every citizen and all constituent peoples, committed to the rule of law, fostering a political culture of tolerance, readiness for acceptance of different.
According to him, the unresolved Croatian issue and the constitutional inequality of the Croatian people "have become a paradigm of the weakness of the Constitution and the Election Law."
“It must be clear to everyone today that the basis for functioning of BiH and its future rests on the constitutional equality of the three constituent peoples and all its citizens. Only on this postulate can we build BiH,” Čović concluded.
