SARAJEVO, December 18 (FENA) - Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) Vice President of Operations Elise Becker visited the FBiH Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) and handed over two dogs to FUCZ in Azići as a donation of the MLI.
On behalf of MLI, Becker thanked FUCZ for adequate treatment and care for dogs, as well as fostering dogs with a guide after their "retirement," FUCZ stated.
Becker and Solak agreed that this long-standing cooperation is successful, and expressed their desire to continue until BiH is cleared of mines.
In addition to staff trained in mine clearance operations and complex security and rescue operations, FUCZ also has nine dogs, four trained in mine search and five trained in search. Two dogs from the POEK (explosive detection dogs) team were "retired" because of their age and years of work in demining, and now two new dogs joined the team, the Malinois Belgian Shepherd dog, trained for mine detection.
The MLI also supports other mine action projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as mine clearance projects, assistance to mine victims and mine awareness, it is said in a statement.
This donation was made through ITF Enhancing Human Security and, in addition to dogs, includes an integration course for dogs and guides, as well as equipment for fieldwork and dogs transport.
