General Mašović on process of AF BiH modernization

FENA Muamer Selimbegovic

SARAJEVO, December 13 (FENA) - Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH), Lieutenant General Senad Mašović, said today that the signing of the contract for the purchase of the US-made Bell helicopter Huey II represents the beginning of an intensive process of modernization and capacity building of the Armed Forces.

He emphasized that this procurement will enable the AFBiH to successfully respond to all tasks within BiH, as well as regarding tasks at the regional level and it will build its capacity to respond to natural and other disasters within its own mission.

Answering a journalist's question regarding the modernization of the AFBiH, Mašović recalled that it is a process involving 17 capital projects, including the improvement of air mobility.

At the same time, he said that the process, which forms an integral part of the document "Defense Review", was signed by the BiH Presidency, as the supreme civilian command, in 2016.

"We expect that after the submission of the 'Reform Plan', the AFBiH will start implementing the Defense Review, but also that the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina will provide significantly larger funds for the implementation of the modernization of the AF since it's a crucial process," said Mašović.
