SARAJEVO, December 10 (FENA) - The United Nations Population Fund in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNFPA), the British Embassy in Sarajevo, the Office of the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo and the ICTY Info Center today marked December 10 - International Human Rights Day.

On this occasion, in the presence of many guests at the City Hall in Sarajevo, three awards were presented for the best literary works on the role of youth in peacebuilding and peacekeeping. The competition was open to all young people between the ages of 16 and 25.

The prizes in the competition of 158 entries were presented to Hana Hasanefendić from Sarajevo, Sonja Pavlović from East Sarajevo and Lejla Vardo from Maglaj.

UNFPA Deputy Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Gabrijela Jumla said that “UNFPA activities are aimed at encouraging continued joint action on promoting peace".

“We are very proud, especially of young people in BiH, who bravely engage in public discourse and address the legacy of the past and at the same time are building a common future on the principles of fundamental democratic values, such as respect for human rights, dignity, freedom and equality.

That is why, in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we want to commemorate this day with young people,” Jumla said.

British Ambassador Matthew Field in his address said that "the role and engagement of young people in creating more tolerant and inclusive communities is one of the key factors for peacebuilding and stability".

“The award-winning young women writers in their works express a strong desire to build BiH on the principles of humanity, justice and empathy.

Young actors from the play "Yellow Boots" have shown a tremendous understanding of the experiences of survivors of sexual violence in conflict. It is our common task to do everything possible to stop the stigmatization of survivors and their exclusion from society.

The UK government will continue to be a close partner to Bosnia and Herzegovina in promoting and protecting human rights, especially the rights of the most vulnerable groups in society,” said Ambassador Field.
