Preparations for relocation of migrants from Vučjak begins

BIHAĆ, December 9 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) Mustafa Ružnić confirmed today at a press conference that preparations for relocation of migrants from Vučjak have already begun, and that the whole process should be completed in the next three days.

“The cantonal ministries of the interior and health, the city and cantonal Red Cross organizations, as well as the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will be involved in the whole process. We divided everything into three phases, that is, three days. Today we will try to finish the complete preparation, and tomorrow is probably the most demanding part of the job - transporting these people to Ušivak, as well as to Salakovac if needed. After that, Red Cross volunteers will remove the tents and everything from the camp in Vučjak,” said USC Prime Minister Mustafa Ružnić.

USC Interior Minister Nermin Kljajić expects a request for police to assist migrants by the end of the day.

“We expect this letter from the BiH Ministry of Security today or no later than tomorrow in the morning. I must emphasize that everything will be done with special attention to the security aspect, as we have information that some migrants do not want to go to Sarajevo. We will take all the necessary steps, and therefore we ask all representatives of the media for understanding. Our primary goal is to do everything without incident, that is, to protect all people currently residing in Vučjak, as well as all participants in the relocation process,” added Kljajić.

IOM Chief of Mission in BiH Peter Van der Auweraert expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached and the final solution to the problem in Vučjak. He also stressed that this was actually the first step in the process of unburdening the pressure on the Una-Sana Canton.

“I am really glad that together we will relocate these people to more adequate living conditions and close the camp in Vučjak. It is also positive because it will unburden the USC, which has been under the biggest pressure so far. It seems to me that this is the first step in this process, as the completion of preparations at the Blažuj location will create conditions for relocation of migrants currently residing in abandoned facilities in Bihać. I just ask citizens for patience, as it takes a few more weeks for the Blažuj barracks to prepare for the reception of people,” Peter Van der Auwereart emphasized.

It has been confirmed by the city and cantonal Red Cross organizations that all migrants will be provided with food and water and other necessities in transportation to the Ušivak reception center. Also, after the migrants leave, the members of these organizations will remove all technical equipment and close the camp in Vučjak.
