MOSTAR, December 5 (FENA) - The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted Information on a mine situation of Ljubače military barracks in Živinice, according to an earlier decision that was intended to accommodate migrants.
As stated in a document signed by Head of the FBiH Operational Headquarters for Migration Issues Fahrudin Solak, due to uncertain situation about mines inside Ljubače barracks, it was agreed that Civil Protection Administration of FBiH (FUCZ) and the BiH Mine Action Center (BHMAC) representatives visit the site and inspect the situation with the aim of eliminating mine danger as quickly and safely as possible, PR Office of the FBiH Government announced.
Although they had previously been informed that they would be allowed to enter the site of Ljubače barracks, representatives of FUCZ, BHMAC and IOM were prevented from doing so by citizens who oppose the accommodation of migrants inside the barracks.
Representatives of BHMAC informed IOM representatives about the mine situation inside the Ljubače barracks, after which a representative of that international organization stated that the mine situation of the Ljubače barracks is unsuitable for migrants to be accommodated.
They also stated that it is too late for demining, because of the winter and due to the lack of willingness of the local community to accommodate migrants in that barracks, their activity in the area was terminated.
Civil Protection Administration of FBiH shall, in case of demining of the site, employ all available resources. In that case, demining would take 30 working days, given the expected contamination of the ground with metal and uncertain mine situation, and the fact that conducting demining operations in winter in this area is very uncertain.
The adopted report will be submitted to the BiH Ministry of Security, it is said in a statement.
