Božo Vučenović and others acquitted of charges for human trafficking

SARAJEVO, December 4 (FENA) - On 4 December 2019, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a judgment in the case of Božo Vučenović et al. acquitting Božo Vučenović of the charges that by the acts described in Section 1 of the Judgment he committed the criminal offense of Organized Crime under Article 250(3) as read with the criminal offense of Human Trafficking under Article 186(1) of the Criminal Code of BiH (CC BiH), and by the acts described in Section 2 of the Judgment the criminal offense of Money Laundering under Article 209(3) as read with Paragraphs 1 and 2 of the CC BiH.

The accused Rade Ljubičić, Safet Turanović, Rasim Turanović, Zoran Dmitrović, Zoran Kalajdžić, Nedeljko Vučenović and Miroslav Vučenović are acquitted of the charges that by the acts described in Section 1 of the Judgment they committed the criminal offense of Organized Crime under Article 250(2) as read with the criminal offense of Human Trafficking under Article 186(1) of the CC BiH, while the accused Milan Vučenović is acquitted of the charges that by the acts described in Section 2 of the Judgment he committed the criminal offense of Money Laundering under Article 209(3) as read with Paragraph 1 of the CC BiH.

The accused were acquitted of the charges as follows: Božo Vučenović as the organizer, and Rade Ljubičić, Safet Turanović, Rasim Turanović, Zoran Dmitrović, Zoran Kalajdžić, Nedeljko Vučenović and Miroslav Vučenović as members of a group for organized crime, by acting in concert, each one with strictly assigned roles within the hierarchy, using deception and abuse of people’s difficult financial situation and their helplessness, recruited workers, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia to apply for work in Azerbaijan.

The accused were acquitted of charges that they organized workers transport to the destination, and subjected them to labor exploitation in Azerbaijan, during which, in order to restrict their freedom of movement and strengthen their hold over them, they illegally deprived them of their travel documents, by joint efforts within the group for organized crime.

The accused Božo Vučenović is acquitted of the charges that he kept, had at his disposal and in business and other operations used the money of higher value he had obtained by the commission of the criminal offense, while Milan Vučenović kept, had at his disposal and in business and other operations used the money of higher value which he knew had been obtained by the commission of the criminal offense codified by the law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Pursuant to Article 198(3) of the BiH Criminal Procedure Code, the victims are referred to pursue their possible redress claims in civil proceedings, stated the BiH Court.
