'Vive Žene' association holds first forum 'My Story'

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 21 (FENA) – 'Vive Žene', women’s association from Tuzla, organized the first forum called "My Story" and "Women's Support Chain" in the local community of Kiseljak in Tuzla on Wednesday.

The forum was attended by professionals from institutions and representatives of associations dealing with victims of violence, members of this local community, as well as victims of violence who decided to "break the silence" and share their story in order to encourage those who suffer violence to report, as well as to encourage professionals to talk about the support system.

The Forum is organized as part of a regional project "Implementing Norms, Changing Minds", funded by the European Union and implemented by UN Women and 'Vive Žene' as partners in the project.

According to project coordinator from 'Vive Žene', Aida Mustačević Cipurković, breaking the silence and restoring confidence in the institutions are very important.

"One of the significant activities that has been done in the past is the development of the "Women's Support Chain". Through the ten-month work of psychotherapists with women's groups, and using the methodology of the "Human Library", they have been further empowered to encourage other women and girls in their work as social activists to break the silence on violence and thus act proactively in addressing 'our own intimate stories'," said Mustačević Cipurković.

At the forum, two brave women who were empowered through the program spoke about the severe physical and psychological abuse they survived, thus sending a strong message to the public about the devastating effects of violence, and how, with adequate systemic support, one can get out of the vicious circle of violence.
