German delegation was led by Stephan Mayer, Parliamentary Secretary of State from the Ministry of the Interior and a member of the German Bundestag with Federal Minister and a member of the German Bundestag Christian Schmidt, former Federal Minister and former High Representative of the international community in BiH Christian Schwarz-Schilling, Head of the Migration and Refugee Policy Department Britta Behrendt, President of Technisches Hilfswerk (THW) Albrecht Broemme.

Mayer stressed that the objective of the Federal Republic of Germany is to establish control and management of the migrant situation and to try to regulate and reduce illegal migration. In this regard, Mayer said, with the assistance of the European Commission, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany is ready to offer even more intensive bilateral cooperation and support, especially to the Border Police of BiH in terms of border security. He stressed that the guiding principle of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany was to treat migrants humanly, regardless of their status.

The decision of the Government of the Federation of BiH to provide two additional locations for alternative accommodation for migrants in the barracks in Blažuj and Ljubače near Tuzla was welcomed. Representatives of the Federal Republic of Germany asked for information on the need to equip these barracks, so that THW could be informed as soon as possible on how it can contribute to creating humane conditions for migrant accommodation.

Director of Service for Foreigners’ Affairs Slobodan Ujić stressed that BiH has done a great deal to record and capture biometric data from migrants, emphasizing that the Service and the Border Police have not received additional funding.

He added that over the past two years, more than 52.000 migrants have passed through BiH, and that more than 20 persons were declared as national security threats and they were returned to their home countries, which contributed not only to BiH and the region security situation, but to the European Union, the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees announced.
