Cooperation between Sarajevo and UNDP crowned with 13 innovative projects

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 18 (FENA) - The cooperation between the City of Sarajevo and UNDP BiH within the "Smart Sarajevo" Initiative has been crowned today by signing of contracts with teams that will implement projects under this initiative.

This will commence the implementation of the 13 selected projects that will be implemented by private sector companies and civil society organizations over the next five months, with the aim of contributing their innovative and technological ideas to improving the quality of life of citizens, especially when it comes to air pollution and public transport.

"We have activated 1.8 million marks in 13 projects. City of Sarajevo and UNDP secured over one million KM, while the rest was provided by our current partners," Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka said during the ceremony of the signing of the contract today in the Sarajevo City Hall.

He said that since the beginning of his tenure, the current city administration has prioritized developing a smart city, implementing new technologies.

"There are two particularly important reasons for this. First these are our experts, young and successful companies that develop solutions for future and, second, the way we have selected projects is extremely important," said Skaka.

According to UNDP BiH Resident Representative Steliana Nedera, this is a step forward in promoting interest, public-private partnerships and fostering innovative thinking in the city.

"Digitization and technological advancement could be a powerful tool that will make cities more resilient and better," Nedera believes.

"Smart Sarajevo" Initiative was started jointly by the City of Sarajevo and UNDP and is being implemented in cooperation with the Municipality of Stari Grad with the support of the relevant ministries of the Sarajevo Canton.

The City of Sarajevo and UNDP BiH are working together with the private and public sectors and civil society organizations to create a smarter, healthier and more comfortable "smart Sarajevo", PR Office of Sarajevo City stated.
