FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 13 (FENA) - A conference titled "Regional Collaboration on Migration and Asylum: Key Challenges and Good Practices", will be held tomorrow in Sarajevo, organized by the Council of Europe.

The Conference will discuss ways to improve national and regional cooperation on migration and asylum.

The Conference seeks to improve both the national and regional cooperation amongst participants and their respective entities on migration and asylum.

Effective migration management requires the collaboration of various actors both internally and externally – at the domestic level as well as at the regional/international levels.

In this spirit, the Conference brings together diverse stakeholders to address some of the key challenges and promising practices in the field of migration and asylum.

Welcoming participants from different entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, the emphasis is placed on sharing examples of promising practice and concrete avenues of internal and external collaboration.

A number of countries in Europe and globally will continue to face numerous challenges in the field at large. In order to address these effectively, international organizations have highlighted the need for improved regional, cross-border cooperation. Collaboration and information-sharing can prove significant when pursuing migration management policies that uphold international obligations and human rights.

The Conference will inter alia discuss the current situation and pressing challenges both nationally and regionally in the field of migration and asylum; Address the nexus between security, human rights and migration; Highlight the applicable international human rights standards on migration and asylum, paying particular attention to the situation of individuals in a vulnerable situation, such as children; Analyze promising practices of concrete cooperation, both domestically and regionally; Develop avenues for enhanced regional collaboration on specific issues.

The Conference will bring together key national practitioners and policy-makers from across the region to provide a forum for constructive exchange across borders. The Conference will likewise build bridges between different national stakeholders and enhance informal exchange of good practice between migration authorities, international organizations and civil society.

Participants in the Forum will be representatives of the migration authorities and civil society from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, representatives of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe and other international organizations, announced the Office of the Council of Europe.
