Victims' Association: HJPC’s decision to forward war crime cases is scandalous

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 8 (FENA) - High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina has forwarded all war crime cases to the Serbian association, while organizations of victims of war in BiH have been unsuccessfully trying to get information about trials in BiH courts for ten years.

The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide warned of these facts in a statement, noting that the cases were forwarded without any restrictions, according to media reports, which is a scandalous, bearing in mind that these cases contain witness statements and material evidence.

They recalled that the BiH judiciary, headed by the HJPC, systematically denied information about 850 cases which the Prosecution of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia assessed to have sufficient evidence to prosecute and they had been returned to BiH but since then they have disappeared.

“This is one of the reasons why we do not support the Revised War Crimes Strategy, because hiding this so-called A list from victims and the public means protecting and hiding war criminals,” the Association stated.

They called on representatives of the international community and all those in charge to remove the obstacles in the BiH justice system and to allow legal and fair procedure.
