FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 8 (FENA) - Secretary-General of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) Alexandru Ion Giboi is visiting Sarajevo as part of preparations for the EANA conference to be held in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1 to 3 April next year.

The conference, hosted by the Federal News Agency (FENA), will bring together representatives of 32 leading European agencies and will be the largest media event organized in BiH.

The general sponsor of the conference is the Administration of the City of Sarajevo.

Giboi met with FENA General Manager Elmir Huremović about the organizational and technical preparations for the conference and visited the Agency's newsroom.

The EANA Secretary-General recalled that FENA is the youngest member of this association that brings together leading news outlets from 32 European countries.

“The fact that FENA will host the EANA 2020 Spring Conference demonstrates the Agency's commitment to EANA's values and the continued development of the Agency FENA,” he added.

He also said that during his visit to FENA, when he met with journalists and editors, he noticed progress, especially in the form of a new orientation towards the development of a multimedia news service, following the latest standards in the work of news agencies.

FENA General Manager Elmir Huremović said the conference in BiH would contribute to emphasizing the importance of agency journalism, as well as media freedoms in BiH and throughout Southeast Europe.

“This will be the largest and most important media gathering ever organized in BiH, because there have never been so many important people from the media community at the same time and place in BiH. In cooperation with the EANA Secretariat-General, we will do everything to meet the expectations,” said Huremović.

The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) was established in 1956 as a forum for cooperation and exchange of information following the Strasbourg conference.

It gathers 32 news agencies that promote and respect copyright, access to quality information, technological development and media freedoms.

The Federal News Agency (FENA) has been a member of EANA since 2017, as the only representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Alliance.
