Nobel Prize Committee must acknowledge its mistake by rewarding Handke

FENA Press release

Bellow follows the correction of the news piece of November 5, 2019, due to the incorrectly listed name of the designated institution that awards the Nobel Prize for Literature.

SARAJEVO, November 6 (FENA) - The association "Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves" organized a peaceful gathering yesterday in Sarajevo in front of the Swedish Embassy building in Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the decision of the Swedish Academy to award the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature to Austrian writer Peter Handke.

President of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide Murat Tahirović told reporters that Peter Handke supported war criminals in BiH, first of all Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić, and that such person does not deserve anything, most of all the Nobel Prize.

"The award should be presented on Tuesday, December 10, and we think that every Tuesday we must warn the Swedish Academy and the authorities in Sweden that Handke is not the person who deserves this award," said Tahirović.

He expects the Academy's Committee to acknowledge the mistake it has committed and expressed hope that it would be corrected before it is too late.

Tahirović stressed that the peaceful gathering had nothing to do with the arrival of Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden to Sarajevo.

President of Association "Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves”, Munira Subašić, presented a letter to Swedish Ambassador to BiH Anders Hagelberg inviting the Queen of Sweden, Silvia Renate Sommerlath, to attend the commemoration marking the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide next year.

Subašić believes that the Nobel Prize award to Peter Handke is a 'crime beyond crime' and that denial of genocide is, in fact, its final stage.

"They knew who Peter Handke was and who they awarded. They also knew that on July 14, 1995, Carl Bildt was with Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić and gave them the 'green light'," said Subašić.

She believes that awarding Handke is the mistake of European politics and the increasing prevalence of Islamophobia.
